Nuevas directrices sobre el uso de la bandera filipina

El Secretario de Educación de Filipinas ha emitido unas instrucciones sobre el uso apropiado de la bandera nacional en las instituciones educativas.


DepEd Secretary issues guidelines on proper use of Philippine flag

Manila (8 May) -- In line with the National Flag Day on May 28 and Friendship or Independence Day celebration, DepEd Secretary Jesli Lapus issued recently guidelines on the proper use and allegiance to the Philippine flag, a symbol of sovereign and unity among the Filipino people.
As per DepEd Order No. 83, Lapus directed all field offices to respect and pay allegiance to the Philippine flag with the following prohibitions: ban canned music during flag ceremonies or programs, prohibit the use of tattered or badly faced flags in all schools and offices, never to mutilate, deface, trample the flag; clip the flag to salute or compliment a person of object; using the flag as drapery, table cloth, covering for wall and etc.; wearing the flag as costume or uniform; printing or attaching the flag on handkerchiefs, napkins, and using it as display of any advertisement or info-commercial.
Aside from the prohibited acts, the Order also indicates penalties imposed to violators with a fine of P5,000.00 to P20,000.00 and jail terms up to one year or both. For erring private schools and institutions, their permit to operate will be cancelled.
Before the implementation of said Order, all public school mentors teaching subjects on Music, Makabayan, Values Education, English and Filipino including school administrators from Regions 1, 2, 3 and CAR were briefed on the proper use, handling and conduct of flag raising and retreat ceremonies during their orientation seminar.
